The Clare County Board met on Saturday afternoon after Cratloe GAA confirmed that a case of COVID-19 had been linked to the club.

The decision was made to postpone their Senior Hurling Championship fixture with Eire Og Ennis as well as their Intermediate clash with Corofin. No re-fixture dates have so far been announced.

Chairman of the County Board Joe Cooney believes the initial fixtures plan for club championships in Clare will be impacted – but he’s hopeful competition will continue.

Meanwhile, Inagh-Kilnamona’s David Fitzgerald says that his club and others around the county have bought into the ‘new normal’ around COVID-19.

Among the GAA’s guidelines for a safe return to activity are temperature checks for players before training sessions, as well as being required to bring their own water bottles and bibs.

Fitzgerald, whose club will be involved in today’s Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final draw, says clubs are pulling in the same direction.

Kilfenora dual star Niamh O’ Dea says all clubs have been clear in their guidelines and expectations of players at all levels.

She says that as well as following these guidelines, there is an element of ‘personal responsibility’ around preventing the spread of COVID-19 amongst the GAA community.
