Solution Found To ETB Gender Quotas Impasse

A solution has been brokered in a gender quotas row among Clare Councillors which had stalled the work of an important educational authority.

The governing board of the Limerick and Clare Educational Training Board had been unable to meet since May’s local elections after Clare County Council nominated four men for their five positions, even though the law mandates that two of the roles be taken by women.

Finding a compromise had proven difficult, and an impasse had broken out over recent weeks among elected representatives.

The issues have now been resolved, however, as last evening’s Council meeting heard that Fianna Fáil have now nominated Councillor Claire Colleran Molloy to the ETB’s governing board, replacing Councillor PJ Kelly who will take up her seat on the Regional Assembly.
