Lack Of Funding For Psychiatric Posts Having Major Effect On People In Need

The Clare-based President of the Irish College of Psychiatry says a lack of HSE funding for psychiatric posts is seriously impacting those in need of frontline services.

New figures released by the Health Service reveal that just 302 out of 456 psychiatrist posts nationwide are filled on a permanent basis.

Some 62 posts are vacant or ‘unmatched’ according to the HSE, while another 100 are filled on a temporary basis.
