Michael Fogarty was travelling in his van at the time of the collision near the Tulla exit, Junction 13, on the southbound section of the M18 motorway.

The dad-of-three was the landlord of Fogarty’s Pub in Crusheen and also well-known in GAA circles.

Gardaí and emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

They were taken to Ennis Garda Station for questioning and later released without charge.
