Hillery Selected For Fianna Fáil General Election Ticket

John Hillery has been selected by Clare Fianna Fáil members to represent the party in the next General Election.

The Spanish Point psychiatrist, who is the son of former President Patrick Hillery, defeated Rita McInerney in a ballot of the party’s members from the Western half of the county.

Tonight’s convention at Hotel Woodstock heard that 277 valid votes were cast, and that John Hillery received 154 of them – Rita McInerney polled 123 votes.

He now joins Deputy Timmy Dooley on the party ticket, after the Mountshannon representative was elected unopposed from the East of the county.
